Revelers singles
so, yeah, they're from cle, but they played columbus a TON and put out a record on break up! (and btw, megathanks to pat fer runnin' these puppies in! and thus hooking me - and you! - up with the stuff i don't have) and anyhow it's just a central-ohio-centric blarg, there ain't no real rules kids. short story for now: tommy was in the mice (watch these skies, probably) with his brother, the amazing bill fox (who recorded some revelers recs and lent them a song at least) and then started revelers with some dudes who wanted to sound even more like the who (tommy, with regards to a recording session that sadly never occurred: "will you make me sound like keith moon?" me: "tommy, yer in luck. the guy who could make you sound like not keith moon has yet to be found.") but with a twist: they should look exactly like flamin' groovies. just kiddin'. (not really.)
anyhow, here's a funpack of all their 45s (including splits with boogieman smash, whose bassplayer they eventually stole)!! five (!) lps in yer future if no-one bombs the station!!!

Dan Spurgeon
here's a remixed version of dan's (of greenhorn and bush league all-stars fame) solo track ("telling secrets, forming unions") from bela's i stayed up all night listening to records comp. got my hands on the multitrack one day and cleaned it up a bit. a fantastic song and i'm damned proud of what i had a chance to do with it.

The Gibson Bros Build A Raft
old age 007 cassette, soon to be reished on vinyl (finally) by cdr - and in incredibly unbelievable wack-job kickass news, the original lineup (as seen in this here photo) will be playing the surly girl parking lot blowout this year (along with scrawl and the turks)!

The Moon and Badtimes
dusty killed this band shortly after not completing these tracks, recorded some way-more-velvets-influenced demos on his own which he released as a cdr, and got a new band together, called mooooooons! (i wish it had all those ohs.) word has it they're entirely more prog-influenced again, but this stuff here is straight-up worship. excellent stuff.

Codename: Stingray
only saw this band a coupla times and they were always instrumental. once craig (big daddy dunson) sat down the whole time. once he introduced the band then knocked the micstand on the floor, where it stayed (soundguys at bernie's aren't gonna do any more than they need to. after all, they might only get paid $3). at some point lazor told me they had creeper jeff singing, and lo and behold, here he is on this tape. two different sessions here (and quite obviously two different drummers), and i also have a demo of one of the songs to dig up and post later. (i paid quite a bit more attention to the mixes here than i did with the gut piston reel as this one is now dead.) mod spy musick. beaut.

The Guile
the guile started out life in medina as the flukes, and released a coupla things (watch these skies) before changing names. this cdep was released at the same time as a 4-song 45 which i'll get to as soon as i do. joe writes the most amazing and warped popsongs into which his cohorts inject even more amazing warpedness. the day they came over to record their drummer looked like he turned completely off between takes and then would play each song entirely differently each time, blasting off after four bored stick clicks, always faster than the one before. no wonder the guitars are so perfectly fucked, i have no idea how they keep up. evidently joe had only been in a barbershop quartet before starting the band.

Gut Piston
a few years ago i inherited some mulitrack one-inch reels. or at least i inherited the joy of storing them. i've listened to a bunch of 'em, and i've made reference mixes of some stuff since the tapes could become unplayable or at least junked enuff to be unlistenable at any time. this is the first reel of two labeled gut piston, which both have gut piston on them (<--uncommon enough to be notable). more evil than the turks and a tad less grimy than econothungs, gut piston are one of the finest bands ever to barely escape lima, oh. these recordings were done at magnetic planet soon after gut piston's first show in columbus.

Malabar Brothers
aaron & sean from day creeper, pete from gc5, and dave (me: "what do you want yer guitar to sound like?" dave: "i always just try to sound like peter green." very well then.) make big rock'n'roll sounds not too tremendously unlike the brought low or shame club, other guys who obviously really, really like grand funk's red album, stepson, sir lord baltimore, and dust. they broke up when pete moved away and did not get back together when he moved back. rough mixes never to be completed.
